Manjira wild life sanctuary spreads over an area of 20 sq. kms and is the abode of a number of resident and migratory birds and the marsh crocodiles.
It has an Environmental Education Centre with a museum, a library, and an auditorium. All this facilitates in educating the visitors about nature conservation and maintenance of ecological balance.
Boats are in operation to take the visitors around the sanctuary for bird watching. Binoculars and books on identification of birds are also available. The films of birds and animals are also shown everyday on 16-mm projector.
Flora and Fauna: One can notice an extensive growth of Babul Prosopis. Plants commonly found in water are Pistia, Hydrilla, Eichornia and Vallisneria.
Fishes of various species like Catla, Rahu, Murrel, Ech Paten, Karugu, Chidwa and reptiles like Monitor Lizards, Fresh Water Turtles, Cobra and Marsh Crocodiles can be seen here. Different species of birds found here are Painted Storks, Herons, Coots, Teals, Cormorants, Pochards, Black and White Ibises, SpoonBills, and Open Billed Storks etc.
Major Wildlife Attractions: The sanctuary is home of prawns, molluscs, various types of fishes such as calta, Rohu, Murrel,and Eel. Among reptiles turtles, cobra and marsh crocodiles occur. A number of migratory and resident birds nest and breed here. The principal bird species are painted stork, heron, coot, teal, cormorant, pochard, blac and white ibise, spoon bill, open billed stork.
Best Time to Visit: The best time to visit the Senctuary is July to October.

Air: Hydrabad is the nearest airport from Manjira Sanctuary.
Rail: Nearest railway station is at Hyderabad (150 Kms)
Road: It is 29 kms from Macherla the nearest town which is connected to Hyderabad, (50 kms). Medak- town is well connected by road and there are frequent bus services from Hyderabad, Nizamabad and Karimnagar.
